eLearning

eLearning has evolved over the last 20 years to become, both on its own and as part of an integrated solution, a very effective learning medium. Its ability to deliver a consistent message to many people across geographic and time boundaries makes it an indispensible weapon in the training manager’s armoury. Properly deployed, its return on investment can be dramatic.

eLearning is, often, referred to as a new approach to training. This is not quite true, it’s been around for quite a while. What held it back was the lack of pedagogy applied to many of the early projects, with sexy graphics and whizzy programming masking poor instructional design.

Echelon has been producing eLearning (aka computer based training, multimedia, on-line learning, etc) since the mid-1980’s. From the outset, our approach was based on educational effectiveness first. Our core skills were then and largely remain, instructional design. Our belief is that, at the most basic level, instructional design is medium agnostic. We have simply applied tried-and-tested logic to computer presented material in the same way as we have to workbooks, classroom and video: where does it add real value? All learning materials are developed under the auspices of our quality-assured learning development method.

Recent advances in technology have made eLearning a much more versatile, and widely applicable, medium, in addition to being easier, faster and more economical to produce.

We have supplemented our educational design expertise with our own suite of development tools to that enables us to deliver consistently high quality learning content. Our clients can license these tools to undertake internal updating of content and to produce new material.
